Gus the Tortoise Takes a Walk is a new children’s picture book written by Erin Arsenault and illustrated by Richard Rudnicki.
Gus is the tortoise in residence at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax. The book tells the tale of an adventure that the locally famous tortoise went on one day.
Museum workers are busy and preoccupied with setting up a new home at the museum for Gus. As they move things around, Gus is mistakenly taken outside in a box. He wakes up and finds himself in the great outdoors, with tasty dandelions and grass tempting his tastebuds. Gus then moves on to lettuce in a sandwich, following his nose on a walk in the grounds that surround the museum. As you follow Gus on his walk you will recognise other Halifax landmarks in the story and in the bright and vivid illustrations.
This is an enjoyable and colourful read for young and old, for those who know of Gus, and for those who are just learning of this famous Halifax tortoise.
