blog1The Highway Rat by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler

Here is yet another enjoyable rhyming read from the beloved and prolific Julia Donaldson. “The Highway Rat was a baddie. The Highway Rat was a beast. He took what he wanted and ate what he took. His life was one long feast.” The Highway Rat stops all travelers and demands their delicious baked goods. None of them has cakes, or buns, or pastries, but the Rat takes whatever they do have and makes off with it. Until, that is, an intrepid duck leads the Highway Rat to her ‘sister’s’ cave, with promises of baked goodies aplenty…. A delight to read aloud.

blog2That is NOT a Good Idea! by Mo Willems

In the style of a silent movie, we are introduced to a fox and a duck, who are happy and bashful to meet each other. The fox invites the duck for a stroll in the deep dark woods, offering soup from his deep cauldron. In between each exchange between the duck and fox, a group of chicks speaks to the audience warning against all of the things that the fox and duck agree to. What is it that the chicks think is really, really, really, really NOT a good idea?
More fun from the creator of Knuffle Bunny, Elephant and Piggie, and the Pigeon that wants to drive the bus.
